STUDYING WITH JOHN CARDOSO
(Beginner to Advanced Students)

Most problems that drummers tend to have are easily corrected, although the complicated aspect is how to correct those problems that exist. My drumming techniques and methods will teach you how to correct problems and how to be your own "Musical Doctor."

Reading music is extremely critical and not as difficult as people would like to believe. I can teach you how to read music within the first 15 minutes of our first lesson.

Using the metronome with all aspects of practice, will allow you to know if you are playing a drum part or exercise correctly. It will also establish an internal clock, which will assist you with timing skills.

You will develop speed and endurance by using a metronome. This practice will not only expand your timing capabilities, but will also enable you to log your tempo on a weekly basis. Your speed will increase dramatically if you stick to it.

You will learn to play right & left handed lead to develop independence in each hand. This is a key benefit on the drum set, and a technique that will keep you from being restricted to any one groove, pattern or fill. You can then progress to four-way independence.

Your learning experience will also include learning Rudiments, single stroke roll, doulblestroke roll, and closed rolls to correspond with the level of your drumming capability. Once again, establishing a very high level of independence.

My intensive teaching method will enable you the freedom to play all styles and types of music, which will allow you to adapt and handle any musical situation, and be ready for the unexpected. The rest is up to you and the dedication you bring fourth into your learning experience.

Practice is a ritualistic procedure. For example, a weight lifter must continue to lift weights to increase or maintain mass and volume. You must establish a routine and dedication to the art. There are no shortcuts in the long run, only long-term damage due to incorrect methodologies.
