Resume
Talent is not all that has earned John Cardoso the reputation of a one-take wonder. It is passion for music, love of performance, and the addiction to rhythmic excellence that has honed his gift. A successful commodity in today’s industry, John is a professional hired gun for many professional artists and bands, enhancing live performances, studio sessions and showcase events. Domestic and international touring has also contributed to his amazing talent as a drummer, arranger, writer and producer
Born in Portugal, John marched through the golden gates of California as a youngster and hit the skins running. By the age of twelve he was touring with a Jazz Big Band. Several years later, he was employed at Yamaha School of Music teaching, and performing clinics at various Drum Festivals. A desire to further his music education found him graduating from the Grove School of Music and soon began touring the world.
A series of life events delivered John to the east coast, where he enrolled in Five Towns College and worked as Program Director for The Young Musicians Institute. During his education, he was an elected member of the Honor Society and played principle chair in the Jazz Big Band ensemble for eight consecutive semesters. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Commercial Music Performance and received an award for graduating top of his class. The educational experience prompted him to open Sounds Select Recording Studios in Long Island, New York, where he teaches and assists aspiring musicians to pursue their musical goals.
Currently, John’s musical focus is geared towards East of West, a smooth jazz group formed with best friend and co-writer/co-producer, Steve Jeffrey.
