John Cardoso was born in Portugal, raised in California, and is currently residing in New York. Johnís passion for music and love of performance has earned him the reputation as a one-take wonder, a praise for which he is humbly thankful. Influenced by the ever-evolving world of music, and expertise gained by working with different cultures, John continuously inspires the listening ear with his unadulterated talent and addiction to an in-the-pocket rhythm, which always raises a brow or two.
At the age of twelve, John toured the west coast with a local band, setting the course for fast-paced musical career. By the age of fourteen his talents were sought after for studio work within the Portuguese circuit, and drummed on his first 45-vinyl entitled Lusolandia, which spun internationally. Several years later, John gained employment at Yamaha School of Music teaching, as well as performing clinics, at drum festivals and schools in central California. In 1991, John graduated from Grove School of Music and let loose on the Los Angeles music scene, touring, recording, and performing. In 1999, Johnís art, education, and experience flung him on the doorstep of New York, where he worked for the Nader Entertainment Company as the principal drummer for over 10-years. During that time, John enrolled at Five Towns College while working as Percussion Director for The Young Musicians Institute in Long Island. At Five Towns, John was an elected member of the Honor Society, and played principle chair in the Jazz Big Band ensemble for eight consecutive semesters. John earned a Bachelorís Degree in Jazz Commercial Music and graduated at the top of his class.
The educational experience opened the doors for Sounds Select Music, a recording studio where John writes and produces his own music, and assists musicians and song writers to attain their musical pursuits via in-studio experience, and/or internet file transfers.
Currently, John enjoys a career as a freelance drummer in the tri-state area supporting local and international artists in various genres. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, and teaching his dogs tricks, like slapping a cow bell to come inside, because itís all about the beat.
